Meet Jessica
(she/her) - Birth Keeper, Doula

Shortly after giving birth to my first baby in 2008, I answered the call to support others during their pregnancy, labor and birth.

I am undeniably drawn to pregnant people, and have offered support, care and a listening ear to friends (and friends of friends) for many years. Over the past 12 years I have personally experienced various birth settings with my own children - one medicated vaginal hospital birth, one unassisted home birth, two home births with midwives, and an emergency cesarean section with twins. Each of my own births have taught me to understand the profound meaning and power of the birth experience. Little by little, I have learned to claim ultimate authority over my body, my pregnancies, and my birth experiences.

My sincerest hope is for all birthing people to have what has always been meant for them from the beginning of time - to birth under their own power.

It is possible to have the birth you truly want - we must not settle! Taking an informed and empowered approach to our births is a form of activism and liberation, and I am honored to be a part of the process! I believe that having a sovereign birth allows for healing and protection of the birthing person, baby, families, communities and cultures.

A FreeBorn certified doula educated in Spinning Babies®  labor comfort and progress techniques, I am also a certified prenatal and postnatal yoga instructor. An un-schooling mother of 6 children, I have the joy of being married to my high school sweetheart, Jason. Originally from Nebraska, I moved to New York City in 2002, allowing me the chance to further pursue my work in the performing arts as a ballet instructor.

“ If we hope to create a non-violent world where respect and kindness replace fear and hatred, we must begin with how we treat each other at the beginning of life. For that is where our deepest patterns are set- from these roots grow fear and alienation – or love and trust.”
